FISHING
The River Dee marks the western boundary of Barnston Estate and also forms the border between Cheshire and Wales. The River rises at Lake Bala but is mainly fed by the many tributaries within the Dee valley. Salmon can be caught here but the upper reaches are favoured. A salmon trap at the weir in Chester enables fish to be monitored and counted.
Coarse anglers catch a wide variety of fish including pike and tench.
Fishing on the Welsh Dee is available through Lymm Anglers

SHOOTING

There are two small woodland shoots on the Estate let on a long lease as well as a rough shoot which is ‘in hand’. An abundance of marl pits dug in the 19th century ensure a wide variety of wild duck, geese and snipe and the many coverts and low river areas produce woodcock and pheasant.
‘Spaniel country’ best describes the shooting land!
FORESTRY
There are some 350 acres of forestry on the Estate, both hard and softwood, and regular thinning programmes and selective felling are in train with the work put out to tender and quotations requested.
Folly and Bronington Woods.
